Not the best of shots sorry, but its a new one that I have not seen before.

Anyone know for sure what type of fly it is ???? Maybe just another syphid fly but its the first time I have seen this one. Taken yesturday and its a first what ever the name is.

All the best to all. Danny.

I`m not sure New Zealand flies would be the same as the ones we get over here, so I won`t try to identify. The detail and DOF are excellent. Main problem is the green leaf-blade cutting across the picture, although if the insect were the other way up, so its head was at the intersect of the leaves, it might work quite well!

LOL, thanks Mike and thats exactly whats wrong with it. The brighter green is way off base and very disstracting. Took me awhile to decide wheter to post this or not улыбаюсь ) but it was the interest that got me in this thing.

I`m just glad you looked Mike and I mean "Look". Thank you sir and I agree 100% and I would say the same thing подмигиваю )

Danny.

Danny, why didn`t you `eliminate` the leaf distraction before submitting? I`m amazed how you can capture a `critter` this tiny before he escapes.

Dan Young Dan Young #7 вс 17 фев 2002 10:39

Al, I was actually taking photos of a rose at the time, this came along and landed on the rose stem next to me. I had about 1 sec to shoot this, LOL. I could clone it out or darken it, but its what mother nature gave me and as already said, its not a great shot улыбаюсь ). I am more interested in what type it is since I have never seen this type before, rather than a great shot. Its only a bunch of numbers Al улыбаюсь mother nature is far more than that.

All the best Al, I`m hard to understand some times with what I get up to улыбаюсь ) Thanks again Al, its just great to be on the site. Danny.

This is a horse-fly (Tabanidae), blood-sucking insect, female.
