Lovely work as usual, Peter. I think Mary is right that this is a moth. A butterfly holds it wings upright when still, and a moth lays them flat.

A good-looking moth, good composition, creative and fitting framing. But I feel spoiled by your other, "more complicated" work, which you certainly have a knack for. Yet, you`re right, you`re right. Simplicity is good too.....:)

Great macro, Peter! Why not crop to the inner framed area for an even tighter composition? Sandra`s distinction between butterflies and moths is not reliable (sorry Sandra)...a lot of butterflies also bask with their wings open especially in dull weather (it is how they get warm...they close when it is sunny). A better guide is the end of the antenna...if it is clubbed (has a knob on it) it is probably a butterfly...if not, then a moth. So Sandra was right, if for the wrong reason!
